Although my kids aren't ready to start formal schooling, I've found some good resources from the blog Intentional Mama! She has some good resources as a starting point, but I am still expecting to need to go into way more depth with my own French homeschool resources.
Keep checking back for updates in my French homeschooling adventures!
As part of our bilingual values, we've made an effort to read exclusively in French with our kids. Here are a few of our kids' (and ours!) favorite series!
Oscar et Margaux Series by Sylvie Tellier
I found this series of books during our first trip to France! These are really fun and educational travel books, which I think are also beautifully illustrated. It's a fun way to re-visit our trip to France by reading the books about the places we've already been, and I plan on buying more as a way to get the kids excited about our future trips to France!
These books (and others in this series) come with a CD, and the books are illustrated and have the words of the songs and comptines (nursery rhymes) so that you can follow along. I played (and still play) these on repeat in the car and at home, and it's been so cool to see the progression of my kids' (and my own) understanding and retention of the French language.
To be honest, when I first started listening to these, I had NO clue what they were saying (and this is after 5 years of studying French.) Over time, I started to understand and memorize all of the songs and comptines, along with my oldest son, and now sing them to all my kids, who are starting to sing with me!
Here are some classic French-Canadian albums that we bought and listen to with the kids. The kids just soak up the language from these songs like sponges, and it's so fun to listen to and see their progress.
I definitely notice their acquisition of language more, because I am doing it at the same time as them!
This is a great app for audiobooks and videos for kids. I have not fully explored their library, but so far we've really been enjoying the plethora of material that is available. Our favorite series include: Petits Ours Brun, Mes Petits Docs, and BayaM Show.
I've gotten my son a Yoto player to listen to audiobooks on-the-go. They have a variety of French material, and also the option to "Create Your Own" cards. I hope in the future to create my own library of these, but with Bible stories narrated by his French-speaking grandparents and sisters!
We subscribe to the Pomme d'Api Soleil magazine, a Christian-themed magazine.
This article is particularly helpful in finding French homeschooling resources for different ages!
My husband found this website recently, which has been a game-changer! An issue I have run into is expensive and long lead-team shipping for books from France-- this website offers free worldwide shipping over a certain amount, something I haven't seen from any other French bookstore website!
